In Beauty World 2013, Go Dubai met with Naseem Ahmad Jawa, the Director Retail for SPRET Retail, which is participating with three of its brands.

SPRET has a history of introducing hallmark products, as SPRET believes that a product, which is customized according to the buyer's needs, has more creditability and appeal. And Naseem handles the overall portfolio of SPRET, and is responsible for retail planning & operations. Naseem also leads the team for Franchising & Distribution. Under Naseem's leadership, the company acquired 5 international brands for exclusive marketing and distributorship in the GCC, and launched 4 in-house brands in the UAE. We speak with him at Beauty World 2013. 

1) Please tell us about SPRET Retail. – when and where was it established, and what are the brands it distributes and markets?

SPRET Retail is one of the leading retailers in the GCC and was founded in 2003 in Dubai, with the vision of establishing a strong foothold in the retail segment. SPRET comprises a portfolio of brands that are offered in over 70 locations across 4 countries. With the UAE being its central operating hub, SPRET is present in all the major malls across the UAE, Oman and Bahrain.

SPRET's current brand portfolio includes OROGOLD Cosmetics, Magiff Cosmetics, Tanamera, Arabee Fashion, Cool Gadgets, OYE, Kariza and NYS Collection.

2) Please tell us about your future plans. What is the company's vision?

The company's vision is to expand globally through creating a strong and well-balanced brand portfolio; exploring and creating new channels of distribution through a strong franchising network, in already existing key markets and also emerging markets.

SPRET Retail has plans to open 500 point of sales including retail outlets, shop in shop, franchises and distribution, across almost 18 countries, by 2018. 

3) What is the business strategy that SPRET Retail is keen to implement to further their growth? Why?

SPRET Retail's business strategy is to introduce innovative retail concepts which have been successful in their respective segments. In order to further seek franchise avenues and distributors for its leading brands, SPRET Retail has recently appointed Francorp to develop a robust franchise strategy for its in-house brand – Magiff Cosmetics, for its regional and global market penetration. Francorp is recognized as the world leader in franchise and since 1976, has provided full development programs to help insure the franchise success of over 2,000 businesses.

SPRET Retail estimates the retail industry as the 2nd largest industry in this region, growing approximately at a rate of 35%. It predicts that the majority of growth is to be concentrated in Saudi Arabia and UAE markets. SPRET Retail calculated that the number of luxury brands itself in this part has increased at a rate of almost 50%.

4) Why are you participating in Beauty World 2013?

Beauty World is an ideal platform where exhibitors and professionals connect, communicate and interact with each other and SPRET Retail is actively seeking partnerships for OROGOLD Cosmetics and Tanamera with key distributors and retailers across the GCC region

The evolving personal care brand from SPRET Retail, Magiff has launched new business franchising schemes for Saudi Arabia. The schemes would also contribute to the women's efforts to penetrate the local workforce. Small and Middle enterprises would be the focal point of interest for Magiff Franchising module targeting the young generation that forms more than 70% of the Kingdom's population. At Beauty World, we call upon all small and medium enterprises to explore the genuine opportunities in our franchising schemes.

5) Please tell us about OROGOLD, Tanamera and Magiff cosmetics.

All three brands are exclusively distributed and marketed by SPRET Retail. Tanamera is a Malaysian personal care brand that was conceptualized in 1995. The range of products is created from raw materials sourced from the rich soil of tropical rainforest. All products are 100% plant-based and natural. The entire product range includes face wash, hair treatments, body wash, essential oils, body scrubs and various other personal body care products. Tanamera's global network extends across the world, including Germany, Denmark, Japan, Singapore, Australia, Sweden and now the UAE.

OROGOLD Cosmetics is an anti-aging cosmetics line that restores the youthful appearance of the skin due to sun damage, aging and other environmental factors. The main ingredient in their products is 24K gold! OROGOLD was conceptualized in 2008 in Los Angeles, California and is available across the world, including the USA, England, UAE, Hong Kong, Philippines, Spain, Israel, Russia and Turkey.

Magiff was introduced to the UAE in 2004, and is owned by SPRET Retail.  Magiff is a natural personal care brand with a range of moisturizers, scrubs and products for hands, feet and nail care. Magiff products have clinically proven formulas and rich blends of natural extracts that stimulate and maintain the balance of natural oils and moisture present in the body. The brand believes in the “show and sell” concept, with live demonstrations being an integral part of its selling techniques.
